Supervisor of Children’s Direct, ST. LOUIS CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL

Davina Hyatt is the Supervisor of ‘Children’s Direct’ – the Physician’s Access Line and Transfer Center for St. Louis Children’s Hospital, part of BJC Healthcare in St. Louis, Missouri, which she joined 20 years ago. BJC Healthcare includes 14 hospitals located in both Missouri and Illinois. While under the BJC Communication and Marketing umbrella for nearly 10 years, Davina interacted with various departments and became familiar with many of the BJC facilities and
their referral processes.

An opportunity arose for Davina to help implement a service for referring providers of pediatric patients to easily access St. Louis Children’s Hospital. She helped develop and initiate a pilot program in 2007, Children’s Direct, that would be a ‘one stop shop’ for pediatricians and referring providers to access a multiple array of services at St. Louis Children’s Hospital by calling just one phone number. Having great success in a 6 month pilot program of a select group of pediatricians within the metropolitan area of St. Louis, approval was given to expand and include the referring providers in the entire bi-state area of Missouri and Illinois.  Starting in 2010, with the support of Washington University School of Medicine, a 24/7 pediatric transfer center was added to Children’s Direct, to facilitate unscheduled patient transfers from the bi-state area and well beyond. Children’s Direct has become known as a ‘one stop shop’ for physicians and has experienced continued growth through 2018, while looking for additional ways to provide services and good communication to their referring providers.  The remote ‘work from home’ model has contributed to the success of this unique growing transfer center.
